Brendan Buckley known as Ninja Drummer was born in Morristown New Jersey on March 13. He grew up in a small town MT. Arlington, New Jersey, born to a Korean mother and an Irish-American father. His early formal musical education came from public schools and the father-son teaching team of Sonny and Tommy Igoe. When Brendan was 18 years old he moved to Florida to study at the Music School of the University of Miami. While living in Miami, Brendan fell in love with the cultural diversity that the city had to offer him. In school he studied mostly classical and jazz music, graduating with a degree in music education. In 1996, Brendan was recording and touring with Fulano De Tal, the first Latin Rock band to be signed with a major record label in the United States. Buckley has not only toured and recorded with her—check out his drumming on Shakira’s Unplugged album— he co-wrote the song she sings on her new Pepsi commercial. “Estefan Enterprises contacted me and asked me to submit a Pepsi commercial in the style of Shakira,” said Buckley. “So I handed in a song, she wrote the Spanish lyrics, and we co-wrote the English lyrics.” Brendan lives in a 1930s house with beamed cathedral ceilings and wood floors. His roomate is Adam Zimmon who is one of Shakira's guitarist.Their house, which includes two bedrooms converted into studios, is a makeshift warehouse for musical equipment.
