The launch of the scheme came in the same month that serial robbers Peter Alexander McCluskie, Nathan Wilson and Graham Moore were jailed for a combined total of 40 years for a series of raids on bookmakers in Sheffield and Chesterfield.
Anyone found re offending in the first six months after their release will automatically be jailed and even those who miss two of their weekly meetings will find themselves back behind bars.
Individual rehabilitation plans tailored to meet their specific needs will also be drawn up, which could include drug treatment, education courses and help to find a job.
He said it was also important to try to target children in school before they got tempted to turn to crime.
"Over the last 12 months we have consistently tackled serious crime and series of raids in an effort to make sure that people committing the offences are caught," he said.
Assistant Chief Constable Steve Chamberlain said the Operation Impact street crime initiative was working and that the robbery initiative was another "step forward."
ROBBERS and street criminals who mark their release from prison by re offending are being threatened with an automatic stretch behind bars.

"The reality is that most people who offend are back out on the street re offending quickly.
"Sheffield still remains one of the safest cities in the country and whilst robberies do occur Nike Coats 2017 they represent only one per cent of the crime committed in the city."
At the launch of the new project Street Crime Minister Ivan Lewis said it was vital to "break the cycle" of criminals re offending so soon after their release from prison.
He also stressed how important it was for projects like the new one to work alongside those running in schools, which target children before they turn to crime.
South Yorkshire Police, Sheffield Council and the National Probation Service are among the members involved.

"We are aware that drugs is a motivating factor behind many robberies, so we support the work of the Prolific Offender Project, which will involve drug treatment work.

The project will not target all robbers just those responsible for most of the robberies in Sheffield and at deemed to be at risk of further offending.

"What we are seeing now, as more and more cases reach court, is the culmination of that hard work.

In another attempt to reduce the amount of crime on Sheffield's streets, robbers with a bad criminal record or deemed at serious risk of re offending are to be put on a tough six month programme to help them change their ways.
That has already had a dramatic effect and is credited with saving many potential victims from the heartache of crime by stopping many habitual burglars from returning to their old lifestyle.

Details of how many robbers have been caught since Impact was launched have not yet been released, but Detective Chief Inspector Richard Fewkes, responsible for the operation, said recent robbery cases at court were the culmination of months of hard work.
It follows the success of the similar Burglary Prolific Offender Project, which works in the same way but targets criminals with a bad record for break ins or deemed at serious risk of re offending.
"Drugs is driving crime, so this kind of programme which looks at rehabilitation as well as putting people in prison has to be a way forward," he said.
