At the inaugural game three years ago, the schools raised more than $10,000. Last year, they raised more than $13,000. Both schools will conduct various fundraisers until game time to try to exceed last year's total.
Jimmy Valvano is most famous for leading his underdog North Carolina State team to the 1983 men's NCAA championship. Kay Yow coached women's basketball for 38 years, amassed more than 700 wins, and was a founding member of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association. Like Valvano, she died of cancer.
"The players for both teams benefit greatly," Block said. "I believe they understand that they are playing this game for a worthy cause, and it helps us all keep the game in perspective. I think the students and both communities in general get into the fundraiser and enjoy being part of something larger than themselves. I think the event has added a dimension to the game that wasn't there before."
Throughout January, Walker and Mount Paran basketball players sold raffle tickets for $1 each. Raffle tickets may also be purchased on game night. During the game night, $1,700 in various prizes will be raffled off.

The game is in support of the Jimmy V Foundation (red) and the Kay Yow/WBCA Fund (pink). The goal is to use the competitive rivalry between the two private schools to unite them in the fight against cancer. The schools hope to raise $15,000. Both games will be played at Coles Athletic Center on the Walker campus at 700 Cobb Parkway North near Allgood Road in Marietta.

"To raise money for the event, we've had numerous fundraisers: T shirt sale, promotions at Sweet Tomatoes and Cheeseburger Bobby's, a youth basketball camp, a babysitting fundraiser, several bake sales, etc.," said Block.
