The land was once part of the grounds to the home of Josephine Silkenstadt, who gave it to what was then Withington District Urban Council in 1904 in memory of her daughter, who died at the age of 26.
Campaigners are highlighting a covenant, agreed when the land was handed over, that stated it should not be used for any other purpose than a public park or recreation ground. They are calling on the council not to sell the land to Mr Bennett.
